THE $275 MOW?

Can you imagine having to pay $275 to have your yard mowed?  If the city does it, this is the sort of price you can expect to pay.  Most cities will have rules on high grass and most will charge the homeowner if they have to remedy it for them.  Unfortunately the fees are often way above market rate of what a normal landscaper would charge.

For example, in Richmond Heights the basics are:  grass cannot be more than 6 inches high, the notice will provide the homeowner 3 days to remedy it on their own, or the city will mow the grass and charge a minimum of $275. While this may seem unfair or excessive, the city does have to ensure that homeowners are complying with property standards but do not want to take on the responsibility for them.  The penalties are intended to be a deterrent.
