WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR BRANCHES & YARD WASTE?
YARD DEBRIS & OTHER REFUSE BASICS
Yard debris includes leaves, branches, clippings from bushes and plants. Some cities will require branches be cut to a certain length and bundled using twine, while others allow for branches to just be placed on the tree lawn. Cities may also have specific times throughout the year of when they will pick up certain items and will have yard waste bag requirements.
FALL LEAVES
During the fall leaf raking season, most cities will only pick up loose leaves that are placed on the tree lawn and each city will have a different schedule. Visit your city website for information.
CHALLENGES
For older adults or residents who require assistance from family or others with yard work, it can be difficult to schedule their availability around their scheduled trash pickup. Some cities are more flexible than others, but whenever possible try not to have the refuse sitting on the tree lawn for too long.
Most cities will have information on their service department website page. Visit our info-Hub for a quick link to your city website.
