[MODERN] AGING IN PLACE – NO LAUNDRY IN THE BASEMENT
For many people who have lived in their two story homes for years, they reach a point where they can no longer safely trek to the basement to do their laundry. For others it could be due to a disability that prevents them from navigating to the basement at all. Some homes will have first floor bathrooms and a bedroom to support aging in place, however most older homes will have the laundry in the basement.
With some, there may be an option to move the washer and dryer to the first floor. Of course you need to have the space, the appropriate electrical hookup, plumbing and the vent. For those who do not have the space or it would require a major overhaul, the “All in One” washer/dryer unit may be exactly what is needed.
As an example in South Euclid a resident who is 83 was able to stay out of the basement by installing an “all in one” washer/dryer in her tiny kitchen. There are a variety of options, but with the help of her son, she was able to research and choose the one that was right for her. She chose the vent less version that is about the same size as the dishwasher and it sits right next to it. Though it was a standard plug she did opt to have a dedicated line installed and the plumbing was connected to the existing. A professional was required to complete the installation.
She loves it! In fact one of the best features is that she can put her laundry and choose the wash/dry option and it does both with one push of the button. No more moving from the washer to the dryer, it is high efficiency cleaning and it is front loading.
As with any product be sure to do your research to determine if this is an option for you and take the time to look at the various machines that are available.
